VERDICT

As far as closed-back headphones go, the HD25-1 is an undisputed king of balance and detail. They secret is a combination of excellent noise isolation with fantastic clarity and acoustic performance. Their rugged build makes them a great investment that is sure to last for a long time.

Just make sure that the analytical sound signature suits your tastes. If you come in expecting bloated, mainstream-sounding bass, you will be disappointed.

The Sennheiser HD25-1 II Closed-Back DJ Headphones are an industry standard when it comes to DJing and live monitoring. They offer a rugged, all-purpose design that users can depend on under all circumstances.

Design

The Sennheiser HD25-1 II Closed-Back DJ Headphones are as simple as headphones can be. Their matte, black finish looks very professional and gives the headphones an appearance with a serious piece of audio gear, which they definitely are.

The rotatable capsule for single-ear monitoring works as expected, and the joint is smooth and doesn’t emit any nasty sounds that would disturb your listening experience.

Build quality

Designers over at Sennheiser know that the best way how to make something durable is to keep it as simple as possible. Indeed, these headphones sacrificed collapsible hinges and other potentially fragile features for a very simple, robust construction that is sure to withstand even the most serious abuse.

Despite this ruggedness, the headphones are lightweight and comfortable even after long periods of uninterrupted use. This is thanks to the padded headband and cushioned earcups, which provide an excellent comfort even for people with very large heads.

The black coating is highly resistant to scratching, and we are certain that it will look just as good after 5 years of daily use as it will when you first unpack the headphones from their box.

The included detachable steel cable is quite thick and is terminated with a hefty L-plug.

Sound

The main component of Sennheiser HD25-1 II is a neodymium ferrous magnet system that is designed for maximum tonal balance and great instrument separation. It performance is further accentuated with exceptional sound isolation. As such, these headphones feel right at home in recording studios.

As far as their frequency responds goes, the bass is very tight and delivered with maximum precision, while mids and highs remain neutral at all times. Overall, the sound is definitely more analytical rather than exciting. For this reason, purchasing these headphones for casual listening isn’t probably the best idea.

What is in the box?

Their box hides the headphones themselves, an adapter, handy carrying bag, and a single pair of replaceable earpads.
